Ten Tips to help you Prepare for your Senior Session
High School Senior Portraits are some of the most important photos you will have taken in your life. They are a right of passage and a celebration of countless hours of hard labor that have brought you to this point. It is extremely important that you feel comfortable and confident during your shoot because this shows up in your photos. The best way to ensure a successful senior session is to prepare properly for the big day. Please read the tips below before your Photo Shoot.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #1:
Plan at least three different outfit changes for your shoot. Include different styles such as casual, semiformal, formal or outdoors. If you are into sports, wearing your team uniform is a great option for one of your outfits. Formal can be as fancy as a suit or as simple as a button down shirt for guys. For girls, if you enjoy wearing dresses, I highly recommend adding a few into your shoot, they look beautiful on camera. Pick a few different colored outfits, this will help you have a variety of different looks.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #2:
ACCESSORIZE!! Choose your favorite Jewelry, scarves, hats and shoes to add character and color to your photos. For guys a nice watch, hat or belt can help complete a look. Remember to wear clothes and accessories that make you feel good about your self. Don't forget to bring your class ring along if you have one.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #3:
I always try to check out the weather forecast long before booking a shoot, however if it gets to the day of your session and rain is falling we may have to reschedule. If it is chilly outside remember to include some coordinating sweaters with your outfit, you don't want to look cold in your photos. Call me at 316-993-2902 with any questions. Don’t worry about clouds because they actually make for flattering photos.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #4:
Arrive on time for your session and have all of your outfits lined up and ready to go. I suggest hanging outfits together complete with accessories on hangers so that you spend less time changing and more time in front of the camera. Make sure all of your clothes are clean and pressed, wrinkles and stains will show up on camera.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #5:
HAIR MATTERS....a lot! For guys, if you keep your hair short, having a trim before the big day is not a bad idea. A tailored new hair cut makes looks great in print. For Girls, practice how you are going to wear your hair before the day of your shoot. For both guys and girls: Avoid making any drastic changes to your hair color right before your session, this could lead to unnecessarily stressful times. Any changes to hair during the shoot need to be quick and simple. Also, if you have long hair, bring along hair spray, bobby pins, and anything else you may need for touch ups during your shoot.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #6:
Wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Avoid bold patterns and stripes. If you are self conscious about your arms, try to eliminate sleeveless outfits.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #7:
Think about your Feet! Shoes matter. Heels and boots look great on girls. Avoid flip flops as they do not flatter the photo.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP 8:
Pay attention to little details, especially your hands. For girls, if you are wearing nail polish make sure it is not chipping, for guys, nicely trimmed and clean nails are a must.
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #9:
Bring Props if you can, they look great in photos and help tell your story. Some prop ideas include:
SENIOR PHOTOS TIP #10:
MOST IMPORTANTLY make sure you come feeling relaxed and ready to have fun. Our photo sessions last about 2 hours, so having a light meal or snack beforehand is a good idea. I am easy going and there are no right or wrong poses. Just enjoy the moment and be yourself. I look forward to meeting and capturing your beauty on camera!
